Featured Charity – Avon Walk

Those readers familiar with the affiliate industry will recognize the amount of effort that Missy Ward, ReveNews.org Co-Publisher and Co-Founder of Affiliate Summit, has put forth towards “saving the boobies.” It is as part of that effort that we have chosen to support the The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, of which, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is just one of their programs that helps raise funds.

Missy chose the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade because they support the leading researchers, key medical centers and hospitals, local breast cancer organizations and outreach programs, advocacy groups and more. Since 1999, they’ve provided $175 million to breast cancer research projects and more than $25 million in research projects focused on primary prevention. They’ve also educated 105 million women worldwide on breast health through community based and grassroots outreach since 1992.

Most importantly, only 3% of the funds that are raised go towards management fees of the Foundation.  The balance goes to programs, grants and fundraising.

In 2007, as part of her support for the cause, Missy founded Affiliate Marketers Give Back. Its goal is two-fold:

  1. To raise money to support breast cancer research, treatment, awareness and community programs through combined efforts within the Affiliate Marketing Industry
  2. To provide an outlet for people to help themselves by uplifting others in a ways that another piña colada-filled vacation, more “stuff” or a beefier resume couldn’t possibly begin to do

Since then the team has raised nearly $300,000 in donations by participating in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Walks and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and other fundraising events for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The next Affiliate Marketers Give Back Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is taking place in October 2012 in New York City with details to be announced shortly.
